The laundry can be a hub of mess and clutter. From all the different cleaning products you may have in your home, to the loads of dirty and clean washing, cleaning utensils and miscellaneous items, the list of what could go inside a laundry goes on and on!

That’s why, it is imperative to create a functional and clutter-free space within your laundry so that you don’t walk into it not knowing what is dirty or clean or not even wanting to step foot in there in the first place!

In this blog, I will be sharing 4 must have’s within any laundry space so that it stays organised and functional.

Are you ready to step up your laundry game? Let’s get into it!

1. Turntables/Lazy Susans

These bad boys are not just for the kitchen! I have seen people use up to 5 turntables within their laundry and all for good reasons!

They are a great product to use to keep all your cleaning products together. But even within your cleaning products you have different categories for different areas of the home.

For example, you have different cleaning products for the bathroom than you have for the upholstery and for the kitchen and so on.

So, why not use a different turn table for different space within your home? Of course, if you don’t have many products for one certain area (like the loungeroom), you could combine the products you do have on one turntable. I would just label the shelf the turntable is on so you can know which one to look through at only a glance.

I also suggest (if possible) to keep the turntables in different shelves or cupboards within your laundry so again, you know where to look when looking for something specific.

An affordable option for a turntable is this one from Kmart. Otherwise, you could spend a bit more and get this one from Howards Storage World.

2. Clear Glass Jars for Detergents

The main things we use the laundry for is…doing laundry! Which means we want our laundry detergents super accessible.

A great way to ensure this for functionality of your laundry is using large, clear glass jars with a little scooper. Again you can get these from Kmart here or from Howards Storage World here (scooper to be bought separately).

If possible, you want to keep these on the bench right near your washer so, they are super accessible. I would also suggest having clear labels on each of the jars so you know what’s inside.

If you don’t however use powders but capsules or even bottles, you could keep the capsules within the jars or, use a turntable to keep the bottles on the bench in an organised manner.

3. Clear Containers for Miscellaneous Storage

If you are a person who keeps your miscellaneous items within your laundry (i.e batteries, small tools etc.), keep them organised by using clear containers that can be either stacked in an organised manner within a drawer or, clearly labelled and placed on a shelf.

These ones from Kmart are great because they are long in length but not too tall which is perfect for drawer use. Just search ‘drawer organisation’ to find other options.

Another great idea is to use drawer dividers. Drawer dividers can help you keep your items separate and organised within a space. They are great to use when storing items like batteries, chargers, cleaning utensils, etc. If using shelves or cupboards to store miscellaneous things, use larger, clear containers that you can label. Making it easy to see what is inside each one.

These narrow, wide, clear containers from Kmart are a great alternative or look through these options at Howards Storage World to find exactly what you are looking for.

4. Hooks for Your Cleaning Utensils

When I say cleaning utensils, I am talking about either your vacuum or mop. If you have a big, corded vacuum, try and store it in a cupboard if possible, to keep it out of the way. If you have a cordless vacuum, I suggest investing in a hook that you hang it from. Some handles on vacuum are impossible to manoeuvre so you can hang them.

Remember to get a sturdy hook that can handle a bit of weight. Check out the range here for Kmart or here for Howards Storage World.
